“Community. A word of many connotations – a word overused until its meanings are so diffuse as to be almost useless. Yet the images it evokes, the deep longings and memories it can stir, represent something that human beings have created and recreated since time immemorial, out of our profound need for connections among ourselves and with Mother Nature.”

About Us
Our United Villages (OUV) is a local, non-profit organization founded in 1997 by a small group of neighbors with a shared vision. It is independently funded through its project, The Rebuilding Center, a 53,000 square foot warehouse of recycled building materials. As a program of OUV, Community Outreach provides resources and opportunities for neighbors to get to know one another. Working from the roots we bring people together to share their ideas to inspire practices that strengthen community.
Our Mission
Our United Villages inspires people to value and discover existing resources to strengthen the social and environmental vitality of communities.
Our Vision
Community Outreach of Our United Villages envisions neighborhoods that recognize and build on the strengths, talents, and resources of each individual to create a healthier, more vibrant community.
Our Values
We strive to be thoughtful, inclusive, and respectful in approach to community; we extend invitations inclusively and strive for diversity in participation. Everyone is welcomed to the table equally.
We are intentional about our work and are open to learning from the community and other organizations.
We believe that everyone has something to contribute and that everyone has the capacity to create positive change.
We think that building positive and intentional relationships is the key to building vibrant, inclusive and healthy communities.
We help build capacity by linking people and identifying resources that move their community-building ideas into action.
We encourage voluntary participation and community-owned outcomes (community ownership).
